We had a full house here and make quick work of a 25 lb turkey with all the fixings. My amazing wife Karen put together an awesome spread as we hosted aunts, uncles, grandma, nephews and the Wildcat freshmen. Never a dull moment with this group!
Anna especially liked listening to the ‘girls’. Sitting around and hearing about the “Haley” tweets was hysterical. Upon my return from dropping the pups back on campus, Anna informed me that we need to have the ‘girls’ over more often. She whispered that especially liked Jonna Curtis…then proceed to share why: “because she is ‘short’ like me!”
I also discovered this evening that Brittney Redlick is the Saskatchewan Queen of Makeup. Who’d of thought a farm girl from tiny ‘Biggar’ Saskatchewan would spend hours getting ready to go out???!!!
Back to work tomorrow as the Gophers invade Durham for a two game set this weekend. It’s been a year since we squared off with last year’s National Champs and they have once again distinguished themselves as the team to beat in 2013. Undefeated and sitting with fourteen wins to date, the Gophers are easily the best team we’ve faced this season. Outscoring their opposition 84 to 8, they boast a 40% powerplay and 95% penalty kill. Those numbers are as good as you’ll see no matter what year it is.
The Wildcats have been playing their best hockey over the past few weeks, but we’ve yet to face a team as deep and talented as Minnesota. This will be a major challenge for everyone, players and coaches. It’s also a growth opportunity for our young squad and I’m sure the players are excited to test themselves. Minnesota might not lose this season; they’re that good. I’m confident that we’ll learn a lot more about ourselves over the course of the weekend series.
Hope to see you at the Whitt!
